The challenge

When release liners fail, your entire process does

Conventional silicone-based release liners create serious challenges in demanding manufacturing environments. Silicone transfer can interfere with adhesives, electronics and optical surfaces, while migrating release agents compromise downstream bonding. In addition, traditional PFAS chemistries face regulatory phase-outs that expose manufacturers to supply chain risks.

The market has long needed a liner technology that delivers controlled, tunable release, without the contamination risks of silicone and
without the regulatory burden of PFAS. CPI Plasmalex has
engineered exactly that.

Our answer

Atmospheric plasma CVD nanocoating at industrial scale

Using our proprietary Bluemach atmospheric plasma PECVD platform, we deposit sub-30 nm functional nanocoatings directly onto film substrates in a single continuous roll-to-roll pass — at speeds no competing technology can match.

The result is the Ximofilm family of release liners: the only atmospheric plasma-assisted chemical vapour deposition release liner produced at industrial scale today. Manufactured in a Class 1000 cleanroom, these liners meet the most stringent requirements in precision adhesive, medical, and electronics markets.

Featured product

Ximofilm: The Silicone-Free Release Liner

Developed with support from the EU Horizon 2020 research programme, Ximofilm is an industrial-scale atmospheric plasma CVD release liner that is transparent, recyclable and truly silicone-free.

Zero detectable silicone. Independent certified laboratory testing using both FTIR and solvent rinsing confirms non-detectable levels of silicone on both sides of the film. This is not a claim, it is a certified, reproducible result that meets the most stringent cleanliness standards in electronics, optics, and medical device manufacturing.

Tunable Release Force

Easy, medium or tight release profiles available. Release force is controlled and reproducible across the full roll width, critical for high-speed automated converting lines.

Zero Migration

Covalently bonded nanocoating means there is absolutely no transfer of release chemistry to the adhesive or substrate. Subsequent adhesion remains fully intact.

Full Transparency

Coating thickness below 30 nm means no change in optical transparency. The PET film is recyclable as uncoated film, a genuine end-of-life advantage.

Cleanroom Production

All Ximofilm release liners are manufactured in a Class 1000 cleanroom on our 2000 mm Bluemach machine, suitable for optical, medical and electronics-grade applications.

Technology comparison

Silicone Release Liners vs. Ximofilm Plasma Nanocoating

Silicone has been the dominant release coating chemistry for decades. Ximofilm changes the equation, delivering equivalent or superior release performance without any of the contamination, regulatory or processing risks that silicone brings.
