Surface property modifications

Plasma treatment allows to adapt the surface properties of a material to the proposed application.

Enhance or decrease the wettability

  • Hydrophilic treatment (SiO2, O2, N2,...).
  • Hydrophobic treatment (silicone, fluorination).
  • Oleophobic treatment (fluorination).

Gliding effect

  • Remove the sticky feel of an elastomer by depositing a "silicone" layer.
  • On polymer (PP for example): plasma activation + post-grafting of lubricious molecule.

Chemical functionalization of a surface

  • Polymer surface activation.

Barrier layer deposition

  • In pharmaceutical, foodstuff fields, the shelf life of products directly depends on the quality of packaging.
  • An adequate layer deposition on packages or polymer films can increase their barrier against oxygen and water vapor.
